From there you get a Butterfly Effect, so even though the changes are tiny, one small change leads to another small change which eventually all add up to the point where, after 100 years, you have an incomprehensibly large number of realities, some of which are perfectly identical and others which are completely and utterly different from each other. And then there might be another one where a thousand electrons all jittered a little bit differently enough that that strand of hair falls out. ![]() So you end up with a new reality where one electron in one strand of your hairs jittered a little to the left instead of to the right, and that will be literally the only difference between your two realities. This is a theory that many physicists today are taking very seriously, because the math actually ends up being quite simple and elegant to explain the crazy phenomenon we see in experiments. ![]() Think of it like the most insanely, cosmically huge branching structure ever envisioned spanning an infinite set of realities. And that is constantly happening for every single particle across all of space, creating an infinite set of infinite realities for not just every choice but every possible path of every quantum particle. ![]() So the motion of a single particle from one infinitesimally small moment to the next can create an infinite or near infinite set of new realities. In reality, a single quantum particle might have an infinite or near infinite set of P2 locations it can move to. And that's just our simplified example with only 3 secondary positions. The particle will move to Position 2.A in 50% of those new realities, to Position 2.B in 30% of the new realities, and to Position 2.C in 20% of the new realities. In the Many Worlds interpretation of QM, the particle doesn't move to just one of the P2 locations many (potentially infinite) new realities are created for each possibility. What we see in experiments is that it'll end up choosing which Position 2 it moves to based on complete random chance according to those odds. In the next moment at Time 2, the quantum particle might have a 50% chance of moving to Position 2.A, a 30% chance of moving to Position 2.B, and a 20% chance of moving to Position 2.C. That's basically the Many Worlds interpretation of Quantum Mechanics in a nutshell! Although new realities aren't based on our choices as many people and Hollywood often claim they're created based on the movement of quantum particles.Īt Time 1, a quantum particle will be at Position 1. It only changes her frame of mind during the party. Em taking the understudy part and then getting the lead doesn't change the fact that she is going to the party and is there with Kevin. So the way I see it is that there are variations in the realities shown, but they are slight. The reality where the plane is delayed or cancelled isn't shown because it doesn't have the same people in the same place at the same time. So long as the basics are followed you get pulled into this box of realities all taking up the same space at the same time. We don't see a reality where they are not with the people they are currently with. We don't see a reality where any one of the principal characters are dead. ![]() All the realities have the same number of people, wearing the same clothing and in the same basic stages of their lives. We are seeing a couple of similar realities that are being brought together by the comet. For those pasts that are very different we don't see them in the movie.
